Kelowna Chinese United Association
The Kelowna Chinese United Association (KCUA) was established by a group of enthusiastic individuals with extensive experiences in community work and industry professionals. Its goal is to create a platform for unity and mutual assistance within the Chinese community in Kelowna and its surrounding areas, promoting cultural heritage and exchange, and enhancing the cohesion and influence of the community. By organizing and participating in various cultural events, educational programs, and social services, the association supports members and community members in their life and career development in a foreign land, providing emotional belonging and mutual support!

KCUA Will Host 5-10 Events & Festivals Every Year

The Kelowna Chinese United Association (KCUA) is committed to education, training, and community capacity-building as a key part of its service to the community. We aim to offer practical, inclusive, and culturally enriching learning opportunities that support newcomer families and local residents in building healthy lifestyles, essential life skills, and stronger community connections—while also promoting cross-cultural understanding and cultural heritage.
To advance this mission, KCUA develops a sustainable community learning program built around **wellness, safety, family support, and cultural arts**, delivered through public workshops and structured training classes. Key program areas include:
1. Wellness & Fitness Training (Open to all ages)
KCUA offers accessible movement-based programs designed to be welcoming for beginners and suitable for a wide range of ages and abilities, including:
-
Tai Chi & Wellness Culture Classes: From “Tai Chi Fundamentals” (posture, breathing, and basic steps) to multi-week training such as “24-Form Tai Chi (step-by-step),” plus specialty sessions like balance and fall-prevention training, joint-friendly mobility, and breath-based stress reduction.
-
Yoga Classes: Beginner yoga, gentle stretching and relaxation, mobility-focused sessions, and seniors-friendly options.
-
Zumba Dance Fitness: High-energy, music-based group workouts that support cardiovascular health and joyful community participation—great for families, youth, and adults.
These classes can be hosted in community centres or outdoor parks, with optional progress check-ins, practice guides, and community showcases to encourage consistency and celebrate learning outcomes.
2. Cultural Arts & Heritage Training (Learn + Perform)
KCUA also supports cultural education through skill-based arts training that builds confidence, teamwork, and cultural appreciation, such as:
-
Chinese Drumming Training Classes: From rhythm fundamentals and coordination to group formations and stage presentation—ideal for cultural celebrations and public performances.
These programs can be paired with community festivals and public events, allowing participants to apply what they learn and share cultural heritage with the broader community.
3. Community Safety & First Aid Training (Practical Life Skills)
KCUA plans to deliver community-focused safety training that supports families and strengthens neighborhood resilience, including topics such as:
-
First Aid basics, CPR/AED, bleeding control, child injury response, home safety, and emergency preparedness, offered as short workshops or certification-style sessions where available.
4. Parenting & Family Education (Supportive, Newcomer-Friendly)
To support families—especially newcomers navigating a new education and social system—KCUA will offer parent education and family skill-building sessions, covering areas such as:
-
Child development (early years to school-age), positive discipline, parent-child communication, emotional wellbeing and stress management, healthy screen-time habits, and cross-cultural parenting adaptation—often combined with peer sharing and local resource navigation.
KCUA’s education and training programs are built on **collaboration and resource-sharing**. We work with qualified instructors, community partners, and local organizations to deliver classes in multiple formats—workshops, multi-week courses, and public introductory sessions—ensuring programs are **inclusive, accessible, public-facing, and safety-minded**. Through these training opportunities, KCUA helps residents gain skills, strengthen wellbeing, build friendships, and foster a stronger, more connected multicultural community.
